Greenest Turf From New Mixture NEW

At Buy Turf we have combined a new an improved grass variety which has excellent colour, with a special program of nutrient plant feed to produce our greenest ever turf. This turf is a deep dark green and we have so many positive compliments from our customers who have purchased our new mixture.

"The turf is really green this year and is some of the best we have ever seen, our customers have been really happy with the results from the turf we have been laying for them" Andy Crontons Nurseries

Buy Turf are proud to receive such positive comments and will continue to work hard at leading the quality of turf across the UK.

Big freeze across the UK NEW

The recent extreme cold conditions have stopped the harvesting for the buyturf production unit. The soil beneath our turf is frozen into a solid block making harvesting impossible.
This obviously means that delays on the turf deliveries have been put to a stop for the week. However we do hope to continue next week depending on the weather.

The turf does not come to any harm but it is just a waiting game to allow the soil to thaw. The dense sward acts as an insulation which often prevents the soil beneath from freezing. Andrew Mercer, Production director, commented: “ In the winter harvesting is often limited to the warmer times of the day, but it is unusual to be completely frozen. It is not predicted that any harvesting will take place this week. It allows time for essential maintenance and we can prepare for the busy spring time ahead.

Time for an Autumn Feed

You lawn will need slightly more love and affection as we move into Autumn. With a slightly higher level of attention it will carry the turf right through to spring.
We recommend that you think about applying an Autumn feed to the lawn - This fertiliser will strengthen the lawn for survival through the winter. It will also protect the turf against disease, as it will be much stronger enabling it to fight off diseases.

Also as we move into Autumn a good, easy way to take care of your lawns general health is to clear away any fallen leaves with a rake. This will ensure the turf underneath is not killed or infected with disease.

BuyTurf gets a website re-vamp

Buy turf has had a new website design to improve the look and feel for it's visitors. Our old design was sometimes a struggle for some of our viewers because of the dark design and light coloured text. So we have listened to what you have been telling us and we have changed the background to a colour that is easier to read.

We want to know what you think about the new design so email your comments to webmaster@buyturf.co.uk we welcome good and bad comments about usability, colour schemes, or even just to tell us how fabulous you think the new design is.

How to look after your garden…now it's summer

Your lawn should be looking really lush and healthy in the summer months, although you will find that you have to water the lawn more because it’s getting dry. If your grass is looking a bit brown in places don’t panic as this is common. It will recover quickly with a bit of rain. If you must water, do it either early in the morning or later in the evening. Do not water when the day is at its hottest, as the grass will scorch.

When the weather is damp and hot we recommend that you mow regularly, even when the grass is hardly growing. This will help remove any mushrooms and weeds. Raise the mower blades, as short grass suffers more from lack of water.

We recommend that you don’t feed your lawn or apply weed killer in dry conditions, as this will burn the grass.

Lights, Camera, ACTION….

As the weather seems to be improving and we are getting brighter days, our turf cutter is steaming into action. We are seeing the quality of the turf responding to the sunlight and it’s really looking fantastic.
Now it’s not as wet the turf is lifting with no effort whatsoever and we are completing stacks and stacks of turf for dispatch that day. Especially with the May Bank Holiday Bonanza we have been having.

It’s time to get down the turf and watch the results appear before your eyes as we roll into summer. Give the turf that fertiliser feed before and after the turf laying to give it that extra boost whilst re-rooting.
Keep off the turf for a week or so, mowing as instructed by email then most importantly enjoy your summer!

Ian Mercer Speaks out about the challenging weather:

2008 has been challenging for turf suppliers and growers with the cold and wet start to the spring.

I am proud of our production teams achievements in producing constant high quality, lush green turf throughout these difficult conditions. Our turf nursery is looking as good as I can ever remember. This outstanding quality turf, when re-laid in customers gardens, reroots and grows with a perfectional finish. It will really have your neighbours green with envy.

Many Thanks to all the staff concerned for their dedication to the production of our turf.

April Showers:

There has been a cold, wet and slow start to spring this year with lawns not starting to grow as fast as usual throughout April. Although nature always has a way of catching up and lawn growth will quickly accelerate and frequent mowing will be required to keep your lawn in top condition.
This morning the met office announced:

“The coming summer is expected to be a 'typical British summer', according to long-range forecasts” - www.metoffice.co.uk

This will lead to some beautiful lawn throughout the UK, with no adverse drought conditions to hinder the traditional lawn.
Our advice is to feed well with a lawn fertiliser, mow regularly and enjoy your lawn.
