Big Freeze across the UK
The recent extreme cold conditions have stopped the harvesting for the buyturf production unit. The soil beneath our turf is frozen into a solid block making harvesting impossible. This obviously means that delays on the turf deliveries have been put to a stop for the week. However we do hope to continue next week depending on the weather.
The turf does not come to any harm but it is just a waiting game to allow the soil to thaw. The dense sward acts as an insulation which often prevents the soil beneath from freezing. Andrew Mercer, Production director, commented: “ In the winter harvesting is often limited to the warmer times of the day, but it is unusual to be completely frozen. It is not predicted that any harvesting will take place this week. It allows time for essential maintenance and we can prepare for the busy spring time ahead.
